the week when Hades 2 ate my life (plus discovering KOReader)
This last week, Hades 2 ate my life. This wrongly implies that it wasn’t eating my life from the day it launched, but as I found myself drawing closer to the true ending, unlocking more weapon aspects, discovering more boon combinations and trying out different playstyles, the just one more run syndrome began sneaking in nightly, much in the same way I experienced with its already excellent predecessor. I’m slowing my blistering pace a little now that I’ve finished the true ending, but I still feel excited to pick up my Switch and play every time.
Melinoë is a wonderful heroine and I love the Mel blades the most of all the weapons. I have the most fun with some combination of Zeus and Hestia on them, but I think Hades 2 does a fantastic job of balancing the god boons so that none of them really suck. I love the mix of new gods and seeing the old ones come back! Running across Dionysus feels like bumping into an old friend, I loved his boons in the first game, and when I pick Divine Dash to have Athena tell me “Your brother loved that one”, it makes me all mushy and nostalgic for Zagreus.
Other things I got up to last week:
- Finally succumbing to curiosity and putting KOReader on my Kobo. It turned out to be trivially easy following these instructions. The main reason I wanted to do it was to explore the integration with Wallabag, my current read-later service of choice, and it works like a charm so now I can read all the articles I’ve saved on my ereader! I’m also very much enjoying all the customisability I have with KOReader now, especially with these very good fonts.
- Reading lots: I devoured the new October Daye book Silver and Lead (very fun, as always, and I especially loved reading a book with a very pregnant heroine) and Janice Hallett’s latest, The Killer Question, which I already knew I was going to enjoy because it’s set against the backdrop of a pub quiz and quizzing culture is a big part of it. Since leaving the UK, Only Connect has remained the only show I’ve devoutly kept up with. I love me a good quiz.
- A very fun spontaneous outing to East Coast Park with my siblings and nephew to watch my brother busk with his djembe club.
- …but mostly, Hades 2.
