craving solo time

Happy Lunar New Year! 🐎 I’m flying off tomorrow morning on a weeklong solo trip, and I’m really looking forward to it. The past few weeks at work have been full on. I booked this trip last December and had no idea that work was going to get so busy around this period, so the timing is serendipitous, as I am badly in need of a break that I didn’t know I was going to need.

Also, I miss being alone. Last year I didn’t go on any solo trips, barring one whirlwind weekend in KL to watch butai, but that was really like a very long commute to watch a show rather than an actual holiday. I hadn’t realised how much I missed solo travel until a whole year elapsed without any of it. Honestly I am looking forward to a long uninterrupted stretch of alone time as much as anything I’ll actually do on holiday. I could sit in coffee shops alone the entire week and probably be super content.

The feeling that I desperately need to be alone is intensified even more right now because of my family’s massive Lunar New Year gathering. I’m lucky enough to be in an extended family that gets together at one person’s house just for one giant meetup every first day of the year, and that’s the sum total of my visiting—which I’ll gladly take over multiple tiny visits—but boy does it take a lot out of me to be around so many people.

I’ve been rediscovering Slay the Spire while looking for a game I can easily pick up and put down in short spurts, and I just downloaded Monster Train 2 for my holiday. I’m also within sight of the end of The Mirror and the Light (86%!), so I can’t wait to get away and soak up all this good good leisure time. See you all in a week!
